Maximising Your Curl Definition: Strong Hold or Natural Hold?

I'm sure you have often wondered and we also get questions about our gels, which one should I go for? What’s the difference?!

So, we figured that we would let you know and help you choose the best one for you!

The choice between strong hold and natural hold gel largely depends on your hair type, how much protein your hair needs, how you like your hair styled and how long you want your hair style to last.

CurlyEllie Hair Gel

We have created two different hair gels to help in your styling routine so you can achieve the finish you crave.

In our gels, we use Corn Starch. Corn Starch actually offers even more benefits than just how much hold it can provide:

  • Provides excellent curl retention for many hours
  • Helps with frizz control
  • Makes styling easier and easy to manipulate
  • Comparable to synthetic film formers
  • 100% natural origin
  • Readily biodegradable
  • Vegan
  • Non -GMO

What makes our Strong Hold Gel so special?

  • Maximum Hold

Our Strong hold gel offers the highest level of hold using a larger amount of our Corn Starch in it, to give you a very strong hold that lasts.

So, if you want a style that lasts a few days, like the slicked back look or love the elaborate styles you can create on your edges, this is the gel for you.

  • Control

The Strong Hold Gel provides excellent control over your hair, taming even unruly or thicker hair types.

  • Shine

Our Strong Hold Gel will provide a high shine finish, which can give your hair a polished and shiny look.

  • Stiffness

One potential drawback is that if you use a lot of it, they can make your hair feel stiff or crunchy, like a cast. If this happens, simply use some of our oil or serum to soften the cast and you're good to go.

  • Protein based gel

If your hair is damaged due to heat styling, chemical treatments (like coloring, perming or chemically straightening), or excessive exposure to the sun, this is a great gel for you as the protein can help strengthen and repair damaged hair strands.

Fine or thin hair will really love this gel as it will add strength and volume, and coarse, thick hair or high porosity hair always need proteins to help fill in gaps in the hair shaft and improve moisture retention.

What makes our Natural Hold Gel so special?

  • Lighter Hold

Our Natural Hold Gel provides a lighter, more natural hold. If you want more are flexibility and movement, this is the one for you. It's also great if you have a few little flyaways, even after you've used your regular stylers and you just need a little something extra!

  • Texture

Our Natural Hold Gel creates a more natural, textured look. If you are going for a messy or tousled styles that won't drop out, try this gel.

  • No Stiffness

Our Natural Hold Gel does't leave your hair feeling stiff or crunchy, making it a good choice for a more casual, relaxed look. However, if you really want the stiffness, simply add more and keep layering till you get the stiffness you're after.

  • Less Shine

You will notice a less shiny look for a more understated appearance. If you do want shine, reach out for our serum and massage some in your hair after you hair is dry. You can also try a drop or 2 of oil to add some shine. Be careful though, as a little goes a long way!

  • Protein-free gel

Sometimes, you may notice that your hair needs a break from proteins, or that you're already getting a perfect protein balance from your other products.

It's a good idea to consult with a hairstylist or dermatologist who can assess your hair's specific needs and recommend the right products or treatments for you. Overusing protein treatments when your hair doesn't need them can lead to stiffness and breakage, so it's essential to strike the right balance for your unique hair type and condition.
